“Stop spreading rumours about my visits to Buhari,” – Saraki
– Senate President Bukola Saraki has strongly recommended politicians and media to abstain from spreading rumours about his visits to President Muhammadu Buhari
– Mr Saraki also denied that the frequent visits to Aso Rock were somehow connected to the latter president’s request for a $29.9b foreign loan
In reaction to a series of media reports alleging that the actual purpose of Senate President’s visits to the presidential villa is a discussion of a $29.9b foreign loan, Bukola Saraki issued a statement through his spokesman Yusuph Olaniyonu.

The statement reads in part: “In all his recent meetings with President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the issue of the proposed loan never came up for discussion.
Like I once told the media, these politically-motivated commentaries are trivializing a serious national issue. They are presenting it as if it is a personal matter that can be decided at meetings between Saraki and Buhari.
The National Assembly, which I head as Senate President, has taken a position on the [foreign loan] issue as required of it by the laws of the land and legislative conventions.
A visit to the presidency by the Senate President is a normal thing because we need to consult, discuss, exchange ideas and make suggestions to each other from time to time.
More importantly, at this time, when the nation is facing economic crisis, there is need for frequent engagements by the Presidency and the National Assembly.”
Mr Saraki stressed that that the National Assembly would make a decision on the loan based on the interests of the nation, irrespectively of the party’s affiliations.
Recall that Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state was among of those who urged Bukola Saraki not to join the federal government in ruining Nigeria by supporting President Muhammadu Buhari’s request for external loan.
