AWCON 2016: South Africa, Cameroon qualify for semi-finals
Bayana Bayana of South Africa, have booked their place in the semi-finals of this year’s Africa Women Cup of Nations in Cameroon, after beating Egypt 5-0 in their last Group A fixture on Friday.
The South Africans needed all three points to stand a chance of qualifying, after a 0-0 draw with Zimbabwe and a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon in their first two matches.
The win took their tally to four points and ensured they finished second in the group behind the hosts, who took the maximum nine points following their 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe.
South Africa will now play the team that finishes top in Group B, while Cameroon will take on the team that comes second. Both matches are scheduled for Tuesday next week.
The two teams that will qualify for the last four from Group B will be confirmed on Saturday. The Super Falcons (four points) will take on Kenya who are already out and Ghana (four points) will do battle against Mali (three points).
