Rivers rerun- I won’t fold my hands and be rigged out – Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to avoid being intimidated during the December 10 rerun elections in the state.

Wike issued the warning during a flag-off ceremony at Etche area of the state.

He said there were plans by the All Progressives Congress, APC, to use Federal institutions to intimidate members of the PDP, their leaders and candidates.

He said the PDP in Rivers State would not be cowed into accepting a rigged election.

The Governor further charged members of the PDP from across the state to monitor every move of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on the election day.

He also raised alarm over alleged withdrawal of some policemen attached to his security team.

Governor Wike alleged that the State Commissioner of Police ordered the withdrawal of some of his security details ahead of the rerun elections on December 10.

He said he was in possession of the police deployment manual for the rerun election.

He claimed that the State Police Command intended to deploy policemen in a manner that APC leaders in the state would have access to disproportionate number of policemen on the election day.

“I have seen the operational guidelines of the police for our elections and I have seen how they want to position the officers.

“They want to position the officers to protect APC people.
“You can imagine APC people will just come and carry election materials away and we will just be looking at them as they divert materials. These APC people are small children.

“And somebody should ask the CP, ‘all these things you are doing, how many people can you kill’?

“Let INEC come and conclude this election without causing violence. I have been preaching for that because
I cannot fold my arms and allow people rig me out. I will not agree.

“So, my message to you is that don’t allow anybody intimidate you. On election day, make sure you follow your vote,” he said.
