The Minister has been badly criticized by many Nigerian football lovers home and abroad when Dalung was reported to have said that Nigeria is too poor to participate at the World Cup claiming that the Super Eagles would never win the trophy.

Dalung has now reacted that the interview he had which was 4 months ago was misinterpreted insisting that he has the confidence that Nigeria would pick the ticket for the 2018 World Cup.

“The statement was taken out of context as it was part of a comprehensive interview I granted four months ago when I was reacting to the status of African nations in global competitions and also football administration globally. Where do we stand?

“The question also was that whether Nigeria or any African country is likely going to host the World Cup. My reaction was what was captured.
