Amechi to resign over allegation of corruption
The Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers state has said that recent reports by two Justices of the Supreme Court is an indictment on the former Governor of Rivers state, Rotimi Amaechi.
Justice Okoro Inyang and Justice Sylvester Ngwuta both of the Supreme Court had fingered Amaechi in an alleged bribery and corruption scandal.
Speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Samuel Wanosike said the party in the state has been justified about its argument that the former governor allegedly misappropriated state funds.
Wanosike further said there is a moral burden on President Mohammadu Buhari to prosecute all those mentioned in the statement of the two Supreme Court Justices.
He, however, called for the resignation of Amaechi as the Minister of Transportation, adding that his resignation will give room for proper investigation of the allegations.
“We of the PDP in Rivers state have been vindicated. We are not surprised because we knew Amaechi was stingingly corrupt. Under his watch over three points, something close to trillion was misused.
“President Mohammadu Buhari now the moral burden to let Nigerians know if he is truly fighting corruption.
“If the President knows he’s not shielding corrupt officials especially those who have embezzled fund meant for Rivers state.
“We as a party are asking Amaechi to resign so that he can be properly investigated. We are asking President Mohammadu Buhari to please do the needful for Nigerians,” Wanosike said.
