Africa President who goes out in public buses

Humility runs deep in some people’s veins; no matter what they do, they find themselves assuming the role of the low class and doing everything possible to make everyone around them feel human.

Some positions no doubt have the ability to bring the worst out of people.

Many individuals feel intoxicated by the fame and money attached to their positions. They become insensitive to the tears of the poor as they walk around feeling higher than the mountains.

In all these, we have to acknowledge the fact that there are some people who are humble to the core. People found in this category are usually few but they end up doing things that will make the society and the world sing their praises for years to come.

Ali Hassan Mwinyi is one of those rare gems in our society today. He served as Tanzania’s second president of United Republic of Tanzania from 1985 to 1995.

This is an incredibly long period of reign considering the fact that many presidents now serve just a term.

Mwinyi who was born on 8th May, 1925 lives in Kivure, Pwani Region of Tanzania. At 91, this former African president moves around and was spotted in a public bus with regular people. As strange as this is, the act is worthy of commendation.

Ordinarily, one would expect a man who held a powerful position like that to move about with guards and convoy.

Finding him in an open space means there are lots of guards around but this is not the case with Mwinyi.

The former African president is simply amazing and down to earth; he has no skeleton in his cupboard so he can move freely and board public buses when he wants. When leaders become agoraphobic after holding some powerful position in the society, it is either because they are guilty or afraid of what the public will do to them because they have failed them.

In truth, some officials protect themselves in order to avoid aggrieved youths or masses that may want to get back at them for failing them in government.

The society will be better if there are lots of leaders who rule with transparency while working with the government. These leaders will also enjoy their freedom as normal citizens when their tenure expires.

Mwinyi is passionate about his people as he is always doing things that will be of benefit to them. He gave a short lecture on malaria and how it could be prevented when he saw that his people were dying.

Jose Alberto ‘Pepe’ Mujica Cordano is also a man of integrity. This former president gives out his salary to the poor and prefers to live in a small farm house . The fortieth president of Uruguay is said to be the world’s poorest president.
